Typ­ing ×, or any oth­er spe­cial char­ac­ter, takes a frac­tion of the time it used to with Ilya Birman’s Typog­ra­phy Key­board Lay­out. Beware it will adjust some key­board short­cuts, but switch­ing back to your old lay­out will fix it. Link via mul­ti­ple sources
